York 13th December 2019

As predicted last weekend was a crazy one, as I mixed a weekend away at York with the 2 day Cheltenham meeting.

We set off to work at dinnertime on Friday, which enabled me to have all bets placed by the time we got on the second  train from Piccadilly to York.

After a slow start to the day, the profits really kicked in during the middle part of the Cheltenham card, with winners for Repetitio at 11/1, Cogry (6/1), and Easyland (9/2). A notable double from The Value Bettor who picked the first 2(From 2), and a winner from Jeramiah Catskill with the last one. I also had a  winner in the evening racing with Alfredo Arcano (Norther Monkey). It was a great day, which ensured that the weekend would be break even at worst, and it being a toss up as to whether the punting or the beers in the Phoenix Pub were the highlight of a truly great day.

Surprisingly I felt ok come Saturday morning, and we started the day with a lovely cooked breakfast and a full circuit of the city walls. After a tour of York Dungeons, I settled down in the Stone Roses Bar to watch the racing, whilst Karen braved the chaos of the Christmas markets. The beer certainly tasted good when Blu Cavalier won at 12/1 at Doncaster for JC, and even better when Warthog battled hard to land a big bet for Handicap Snip in the big handicap chase. Call Me Lord (Watched this in Spark, a great new casual eating/drinking venue on Piccadilly) then landed the big hurdle race, having been tipped by Matt Tombs and Northern Monkey to make it an epic day. Scottish Football Bets also weighed in with 3 winners out of 4 selections and Craig Forsyth had an evening winner with Jackstar (9/2 into 13/8).

The day finished in a haze of booze and euphoria, as we visited several more pubs and stumbled back to the Hotel.

The weekend had been so good and profitable that, I booked another night in York, and enjoyed a chilled Sunday, with no further bets.

It’s a bit of a come down to be back in work this week, but, weather permitting, there’s some decent stuff this weekend, and then it’s the Christmas holidays with some stellar racing.
