Review and Goodwood week preview

Review of week ending 28th July 2019 and Goodwood week preview

What initially looked like being a very busy weekend of horse racing wasn’t quite as busy as anticipated due to the heavy rain changing the going at Ascot and York.

Handicap Snip went for one of his special bets on Vale of Kent in the International Stakes, however, this one despite leading early on faded out of the places. His only other bet was on the huge York gamble Flying Pursuit who was backed into 6/1, who finished 5th looking a little pace less at the business end of the race.

Ben Linfoot had 2 bets, and a nice place by Jawaal in the York sprint at 20/1, meant a profit, even though his other bet Starlight Romance ran a stinker.

Northern Monkey, had mixed results, with a small profit over the weekend due to the welcomed 14/1 win by Dakota Gold in the big sprint at York.

In my other betting, there was a loss with the Scottish Football bets, and a decent profit from a few personal rugby league bets. These aren’t been recorded at the moment, which is something I aim to do, as I have a few days off work at the end of the week. I’ll also update the profit and loss figures next week.

Goodwood week preview

The week ahead looks like being very busy with Goodwood for 5 days from Tuesday onwards and perhaps some action from the Galway Festival over in Ireland.

I’ll be going with the same tipsters as usual this week, but have added the big festival service for Goodwood from Betting Emporium. This service is operated by the well-known professional gambler Neil Channing, and from my previous experience is very good.

I may update during the week, as I am off work from Wednesday onwards.

Thursday 25th July 2019 The Weekend Preview

Thursday 25th July 2019 The Weekend Preview

As usual it’s been a pretty quiet week, with just a few bets on the horse from Northern Monkey, all losers and a few minor bets on the darts.

The weekend however, looks like being busy with some decent quality horse racing along with the conclusion of the darts and a few bets on the WCG Golf event in the States.

I don’t want to get too carried away, but the darts ante post bets are looking promising, I have Peter Wright to win his quarter and the whole event at the World Matchplay darts, as well as smaller bets for Durrant to win his quarter, and on Smith and Gurney to win the event. The only loser so far, was Ian White who somehow managed to bottle his second round match last night, losing 14-12 from a 9-4 lead. Wright is looking very strong, but obviously it could all go wrong in the quarter finals which start tonight. I have had some match bets as well, and will tally up the profits and losses from these today.

In the golf I have a few of the specialist market bets from Ciaran Meagher, plus I went outright with Roy, Thomas, and Horschel picked by Ben Coley of Sporting Life.com. Hopefully some of these bets will help contribute to the Goodwood betting bank.

For this weekend’s horse racing, I have been strong and will stick with Northern Monkey, Ben Linfoot and Handicapsnip.

I’ll be back next week with an update.

Weekend Review 21st July 2019

As mentioned in my weekly preview, this week was relatively quiet apart from the Open Golf.

Ben Linfoot had 2 bets on Saturday but alas neither came close to collecting, whilst Handicap Snip just tipped one horse in a chase at Market Rasen, but despite showing up early Trigger Nichol faded to 6th and hence there were no returns.

Northern Monkey’s Wayne was on his stag weekend in Dublin but did tip a few before he left for the Emerald Isle. Friday was good with Lake Volta finishing second, and Star of Southwold running out a good winner. Saturday looked really promising, with a single and double with Star of Southwold running onto Proschema in the big staying handicap at Haydock at a juicy 9/1 ante post. Gambled into 7/2 favourite on the day, things were looking good, but disappointingly the horses faded in the final two furlongs. The Tin Man was also tipped ante post at 5/2, but he doesn’t seem to be the horse of old and was unplaced. The final horse of the weekend was Star Catcher in the Irish Oaks, andvunder a masterful Dettori ride, the Gosden horse lead all the way to land a small each way punt.

Overall a small loss on the horses this week.

Fortunately, my golf tips did the business. I was on the winner Lowry, for top Irish and also had a small bit on the win, and also had a lumpy winner on Finau, for top 20 and outright.

This week = +£300

Overall = +£1800

Week commencing 15th July 2019

After a hectic weekend in both punting and my home life (I've given in my notice at work, and will be returning to the more lucrative contact work), this week looks a lot calmer.

With the racing looking relatively modest I will be looking at expanding my betting by having some bets on the Open Golf and the World Matchplay Darts from sunny Blackpool.

I generally see a twitter golf tipster called Ciaran Meagher, and for the darts I'll be looking at the free tips provided by Chris Hammer of Sportinglife.com.

I'll probably next update early next week.

Weekend Review - 13th July 2019

As expected it was a very busy weeks punting, with the focus being, Newmarket from Thursday onwards and then additional meetings at York and Ascot at the weekend.

The week started poorly when Northern Monkeys maximum bet at Newmarket, Magical Gift ran a stinker despite being backed in from ante post 12/1 to 7/2 favourite. This was an appalling start to the week and really limited my stakes for the rest of the week.

Fortunately the fight back started on Friday, and after a wretched run of bad luck, finally Wayne of NM, got some deserved winners, with the highlight being the front running win by Royal Intervention at 12/1. Handicap Snip, was going in heavy with 3 maximums over the weekend, but the first Collide, didn't seem to stay and faded disappointingly. It was also a blank day for Ben Linfoot on Friday, with 3 losers.

Saturday looked like being epic, 5 bets from Linfoot, 2 maximum's from HS, some lumpy bets from Northern Monkey, who was sounding rather confident after Fridays 2 winners. I was the Chorlton Beer Festival Saturday afternoon, so placed my bets, and then recorded the racing, to hopefully watch on my drunken return.

What an afternoon it turned out to be, Northern M had 2 huge winners with Tis Marvellous and Copper Knight, plus the double, Handicap Snip provided a lovely maximum better winner with Vale of Kent, and Linfoot weighed in with the massive gamble on Ten Sovereigns in the July Cup (10/1 into 7/2). Overall a cracking day, which starts the blog off in great style.

Week Ending 15th July = +£1500

Back in 2019

Good afternoon and welcome to the long awaited return of my betting blog, which hopefully I can maintain for a bit longer than usual this time.

It’s been a relatively poor period for my tipsters, but positively I’ve been disciplined with few instances of chasing losses, and I’ve tightened my belt with regard to staking.

Life in general is ok, but work is boring me senseless and I am ready for a change. Three years at the current job, and I am looking to move back into the more lucrative contracting sector.

I have reduced the number of tipsters I use, which now comprise of the following:

Ben Linfoot (Sporting Life) – Ben has been a regular tipster for me over the years and his tips have a proven record of making profit. The tips are value based, mostly 10/1+, and are exclusively on the bigger better quality races, usually although not always handicaps. Hence tips are either for Saturdays or big festivals. Tips are given out on the Sporting Life web site the night before racing, and prices are usually easily achieved to the stakes I bet at.

Stakes - £25 e/w

Handicap Snip by the Judge – The Judge is an internet tipster who in the past had a reputation for shrewdness on the Betfair forum. Again like Ben Linfoot. The Judge focusses on the better class racing, and hence it’s again its only beting on Saturdays or big festivals.

Stakes - £15 per point

Northern Monkey – Northern Monkey is also one of my long standing tipsters, who I have followed for over 3 years. Wayne Finter who runs the service, provides daily tips, although I will be mainly following the tips on the better races. He tips on all forms of racing, although his speciality is sprinters.

Stakes - £40 per point.

For the blog, the intention is to have a betting bank of £1,500, for all services combined, and start the project off on Thursday 11th July when the Newmarket July meeting commences. This betting bank is really my last attempt to make the game pay and when it’s gone, it’s gone, and I’ll have to call it a day with my punting, so therefore I have reduced my stakes, which should at least cover me until Goodwood. Staking will only be increased if I am lucky enough to double the bank to £4k.

I’ll be back later in the week, for the first day of Newmarket.
