Monday wash up
Just a quick round up of Sundays action.
There were a few bets from Bet Alchemist, Roger Bush, and Northern Monkey, but alas these were all losers, except Northern Monkey’s which got a place.
In the golf I ended up about level, with a head heat winner for Tyrell Hatton to be top English player, and each way returns from Branden Grace.
This week will be quiet, except for the football ante post bet from the Sporting life and racing post.

Goodwood Saturday
After Friday I was feeling a little rough on Saturday, and most of the morning was spent recovering to be honest.
I had a great start at Goodwood with a gamble landed as Bet Alchemist tipped Hoof it at 22/1. There were losers in the race from Ben Linfoot, and Northern Monkey, but overall a winning race for me. In race 2 I also had the winner, with Dai Harraild, who won at 9/2, as well as the 3rd place horse, Move Up, tipped each way by Horse Trader.
The main race was the Stewards Cup, where I was loaded up with bets, including an each way double given by Northern Monkey on Take Cover at 10/1, and Growl at 14/1. I was also on Dancing Star and Orions Bow (At big antepost prices). The only thing that could have worked out better was if Growl had won, as my horses filled 5 of the first 6 places, to earn me yet more profits. Growl had a shocker of a draw, and was so unlucky, finishing very strongly for a fourth place.
Roger Bush also weighed in with a strong bet winner as Westerner Girl stayed on gamely at Galway to land the spoils at an early 7/2.
After another great day, it was time for the pub, and we headed down to Cheadle for a few beers. On my return there was more good news, as I discovered that Hawatif had won for me at 12/1.
So that was it, the end of Goodwood for another year, and what a festival it had been for me. It started slowly for me on the Tuesday (Seems so long ago), but every day after had been great. I’d bet too much and drunk too much, but what a blast it has been.
I’ll need to take some time to recover now, so it’s no punting for me until next Saturday, but I’ll be back with an updated list of my punters and their results, early next week.
Goodwood Friday
I was feeling fresh on Friday after a good sleep and an alcohol free day on
Thursday. I had some jobs to sort out at home, and we were due to have an early evening in Manchester for a few drinks after racing.
It was another busy day of punting, mainly focussed on the big sprint of the day, where I was heavily into Take Cover with a few of my tipsters. In the first race my main bet bombed out,
but fortunately I covered with a bet on Kings Fete, who won at 5/2. In race 2 Horse Trader, and Bet
Alchemist were massively into Thikriyaat, who had run a cracker for me at Royal Ascot, when second. Goodwood is a terrible track for horses getting into trouble, and it looked bad for my horse as he was caught in a pocket as they hit the 2 furlong pole. Fortunately and to much relief, the man Hanagan got him out, and he finished strongly to land my too large bet. Pressure was off with that winner now, especially given Wednesday’s results, and thus I could sit back and kind of enjoy the rest of the day. In the next race the mile handicap, I was on a few horses, as is usually the case in such races, and also covered on the incredibly short favourite Franklin D. Franklin D scrambled ome, and I also gained each way returns from Donncha, and Belgium Bill. Not a great result, but some returns, to keep things ticking over.

his want set off at a furious pace, and hitting the furlong marker was in command, he did tire though, and I was relieved to see him scramble home. This was another monster win for me, and ensured that I was well in profit for another day. There were a few other bets, all losers alas, but overall Friday had been very good to me, thanks to Take Cover and Thikryaat.
A few drinks in Town followed, by a few more, and then a few more as the day ended in celebratory fashion.

Goodwood Day 3
I felt a little tender first thing on Thursday, but more relaxed and more upbeat.
It was a pretty busy day on Thursday, but I hadn't backed horses in every race, with nothing in the Richmond, the fillies handicap, or in the fillies maiden. I was only backing in the Galway Hurdle in Ireland so it was a pretty limited number of races, which meant it was most likely to be feast or famine.
The day started great, as despite running as green as grass, You're Hired edged home at 9/1. This one was tipped by Ben Linfoot and Roger Bush, and was just the kind of start I crave on a festival day. A good winner in the first race, eases the pressure, although sometimes it can turn out to be the only one of the day. I was hoping that this was to be the start of a great day, and ignite my Goodwood festival.
It was a good start, and things were about to get even better. Big Orange was a game winner for me in the Goodwood Cup at an early 4/1,one picked by myself. I know I said that I wouldn't back my own, but things are different at the big festivals, and I couldn't see this one being out of the places.
The utter highlight came in the nursery at 4.55, I'd already had a tip from Horse Trader for Bear Valley at 8/1, and had been suggested by Paul Jones to have a little on the Mark Johnson Tricast. Fortunately I invested £30 on 6 x £5 combination tricasts, each way money won when Hidden Cyclone just failed to win the Galway Hurdle (For Bet Alchemist at a monster 33/1).The rest is history, as the tricast was amazingly landed with a 4 figure return, and pretty comfortably really as the 3 were well clear. It just shows how fine the margins are between victory and defeat, as I was so close, to not putting the bet on.
For good measure, I even had the winner of the last, Laughton at 9/1, who was tipped by Ben Linfoot and Northern Monkey.
It had been a very special punting day, one which I won't forget for a very long time.

Goodwood Day 2
For day 2 at Goodwood, I was at work in the morning and off to watch the racing in the afternoon. I'd not had the best of nights sleep again and was pretty weary, so couldn't wait to leave work at 12 on the dot and get home. As with the first day I kind of felt a little down and depressed.
Overnight had been decent with good results from Galway's evening races from Bet Alchemist. Top Notch Tonto ran a screamer to finish second at 20/1, and Beau Satchel landed a massive punt from 9/1 into 11/4 favourite. This was in complete contrast to Galway's dreadful day 1 results, and it meant that I was in decent shape as we headed into day 2 at Goodwood.
Wednesday was pretty poor for me, with the only winner for me being Ulysses, tipped up by Horse Trader at 9/2. I had some each way money returns from Ribchester (unlucky), Twin Sails, Column, and Cairdiuil, but overall results were very disappointing. I should have really seen this coming, when in the first race my three horses finished in the last 3 never looking like even bringing me any each way returns. The Galway Plate was awful as well, with none of mine ever looking likely to get involved.
At least though, I made it to the Pub (George and Dragon) for a few beers to drown my sorrows, as well as celebrating the start of my holiday, and then we had a nice meal at Bellinis, before downing another bottle of wine. It was a very poor day, but there were enough returns to mean that I live to fight another day.

A bit like at Royal Ascot I was at work for the first day of Goodwood, and it kind of spoilt it for me. I was feeling pretty tired as it was, having only managed a handful of hours sleep the day before. I was lethargic at work, and felt a bit low. After a poor start the night before at Galway with 4 losers, Bet Alchemist was my punter of the day, with a nice winner with Boom The Groom. I was on at 14/1, which was a fantastic price, as the horse was heavily backed throughout the day into 13/2.
No other winners, although there were some each way returns from Notarised, and Stars Over The Sea for Ben Linfoot, whilst Horse Trader contributed as Haggle finished strongly to land some each way money. Horse Trader had 2 other losers, so not the best of days for my most profitable tipster,
