It was a crazy weekend of punting, with contrasting results and so many highs and lows. Excessive alcohol consumption added to the mix.
It looked to be an exciting week ahead with the Open meeting (Previous Paddy Power meeting) for 3 days at Cheltenham, as well as the Glad Slam of Darts and the promise of loads of rugby union bets with the start of the European cup.
Alas, things started poorly as after day after day of rain, the opening Friday of Cheltenham was called off. I was proper gutted, as I’d worked extra hours during the week to have the Friday afternoon off, and all for nothing.
Thankfully Saturday went ahead, and what an eventful day it turned out to be. Remarkably for a Saturday I was pretty fresh, as I was driving over the Pennines early Saturday morning to visit my mum and brother, and hence didn’t drink on the Friday. Arriving there early meant that I got back in times to see most of the afternoons racing.
It started well as Northern Monkey landed a maximum with Thyme Hill(Also backed ante post for any race at the festival). The next couple of races were poor, but NM also tipped Scentasia at 7/2 as a heavily backed winner at Lingfield, and I was flying. The big race went the way of Happy Diva tipped by The Value Bettor, which ensured a winning day. Ben Linfoot had a placer, but Handicap snip had two losers. I have joined Bet Alchemist and he also provided a lovely 25/1 with Golan Fortune.
Scottish football bets had 3 losers, but fortunately I backed the Sporting Life accumulator, which won, and made my football punting profitable for the day. Elite Rugby provided its usual stream of steady winnings.
The Sunday was a mixed day, which was only rescued by a 25/1 winner of the bumper, Israel Champ tipped by Jodie Standing of Marten Julian’s midweek preview which I have recently joined. As usual my bogie race was the Greatwood Hurdle with my horses finishing 2nd,3rd and 4th.
Profits were made in the darts, as I had backed Peter Wright each way and then covered the win part of the bet on Price in the final.
All in all a chaotic weekend of punting, where discipline went a little a awry, as a few new services were used. I am aiming this week to update my services, to ensure a more disciplined period ahead. There’s a new football service I am joining and my horse tipsters need consideration. I’ve also joined Paul Jones Cheltenham ante post service. My punting records also need urgent attention, having yet to recover from the chaos of the bathroom being renovated.
Thankfully though, I got out of the weekend unscathed, with profits.
